# Overview

> Connect an AI agent to the drawings open in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D.

The PlantEngineer AutoCAD MCP Server lets an MCP client such as Claude, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot work in the drawings your designers already have open. The agent places components, checks the model against your piping specifications, answers questions about the model, and makes batch edits. Your designers still make the design decisions.

## How it connects

The server is an AutoCAD plugin on the designer's workstation. It talks to AutoCAD through its .NET API, inside the AutoCAD process. Your MCP client connects over the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (MCP) and receives only the results it asks for.
