# Install the plugin

> Add the AutoCAD MCP Server to a designer's workstation.

You install one AutoCAD plugin on each workstation where an agent will work, then add one line of configuration to your MCP client. Setup takes about ten minutes.

## Requirements

* Windows.
* AutoCAD or AutoCAD Plant 3D 2027.
* A PlantEngineer for AutoCAD seat for each designer, assigned by your company's PlantEngineer administrator.
* Internet access from the workstation to your company's PlantEngineer address.

## Get the installer

During a pilot, PlantEngineer provides the installer and sets it up with your team on an install call. [Try it now](https://plantengineer.ai/acad-mcp#get-started) to start a pilot.

## After installing

Start AutoCAD and open a drawing. The server starts with AutoCAD, so your MCP client can only reach it while AutoCAD is running.

Then sign in once: click **Sign in** on the PlantEngineer ribbon tab, or run `PLNT.LOGIN`. Enter your company's PlantEngineer address, sign in with your work account in the browser that opens, and return to AutoCAD. AutoCAD remembers the sign-in. Until you sign in, and while you have no seat, the MCP client gets a message explaining what to do instead of a result.

IT can prefill the address for every workstation by installing with `msiexec /i PlantEngineer.AutoCAD.msi PLNTADDRESS=<your address>`.

Next, [connect your client](https://docs.plantengineer.ai/acad-mcp/connect-your-client.md).
